- Aeolus, Keeper of the Winds, figures prominently in many cautionary tales and myths. The Four Directional Winds obeyed him. So, too, did the Storm Winds. Described as especially hospitable to worthy and virtuous sea travelers, ancient writers ascribed to him a role in such tales as Jason and the Argonauts, Odysseus and The Odyssey, and Aeneas and The Aeneid. All things being equal, Aeolus provides favorable winds for sailing vessels. But Clipper Ships captained by unworthy officers? Aeolus always favors the crew over the unworthy officers in such circumstances, and listens carefully to what they whisper when the officers aren't around.
